Microsoft Surface on OEM

As the head of Microsoft's OEM division passes to other occupations, business partners from Redmond prove upset about the introduction of Surface. HP, for starters, will only x86 tablet. If Windows 8 is (to Redmond's own admission) a risky bet for Microsoft, the tablet Surface could go down in history as the point of friction largest ever reached by Redmond with the business strategies of its OEM partners.

There is an important first handover, in Redmond, its producers in the department: the corporate vice president Steven Guggenheimer leaves the management of the OEM division at Nick Parker (formerly vice president, sales division of the above) and move to a new role " senior "within the company, while Microsoft is quick to explain that it is a handover already planned for some time and made to coincide with the beginning of the fiscal year (July 1).

Èprobabile was all planned, but after the presentation of Surface signs of friction between the company and the manufacturers of Windows computers and gadgets are becoming more obvious: hitherto OEMs were studying the possibility and the opportunity to make tablet ARM Windows-based 8, but with the introduction of Surface such a possibility seems to be much more remote. Some people complain of the alleged double game made by Microsoft, which on one hand was helping the partners in finalizing the design of the next Windows-centric systems and in the meantime had been prepared to unveil "his" Surface to the general public.

And maybe it will not be open crisis, but at least one major manufacturer has already given on the tablet package Windows-ARM: Hewlett-Packard has declared its unwillingness to make a Windows Mobile 8 based on the chip, at least for now. For now, the American company will only produce a tablet / convertible for the business market, the spokesman explained.
Conceived, designed and engineered entirely by Microsoft employees, and building on the company’s 30-year history manufacturing hardware, Surface is designed to seamlessly transition between consumption and creation, without compromise.
Surface, Microsoft's tablet

Announcement in Los Angeles. Two versions, one an ARM and x86. Prices and availability to be determined, but the big jump in hardware testing BigM.Rome - The Italian night, afternoon in California, Microsoft has brought a carefully selected group of journalists in a Hollywood studios to show a novelty hitherto unsuspected: Redmond also has its tablet, actually has two, and are all called Surface.

Two versions, then: a CPU with ARM and x86 (Intel), or a tablet itself with similar capabilities to those far from Apple and its competitors Android, and one that embodies a different form-factor characteristics Hardware hitherto the prerogative of Ultrabook. 10-inch screen, HD for the ARM model (which is equipped with Windows 8 RT) and fullHD model for x86 (Windows Pro 8).

Surface is a complete hardware platform: the magnesium case is made specific and dedicated components, has an element that is "detached" from the bottom and it focuses on three hinges to become a support to hold the tablet vertically (Kickstand) There are a couple of covers / keyboard, a multitouch and a traditional design that complement and serve as a complete package.

Prices and launch date remains a mystery. Microsoft speaks generically of absolute competitiveness with the rest of the competitors, probably in the hope of not offering any discounts on the side (Google expected to launch its tablet later this month, Apple could decide to surprise everyone before Christmas).

Incredible level of secrecy maintained by Microsoft before this double launch: an operation worthy of Apple, because no one until now had never even speculated that Redmond could throw with such force in the hardware market. Certainly the hardware OEMs have not done anything to escape, although many in Asia have been involved in the work: and many of them will also be competing for tablet Surface, but Microsoft states that they will not be hindered in any way and enjoy the same type support hitherto granted to all partners.
